Building An Internet Business Takes Planning

In order to help me to build an Internet
business, I decided to get help by finding
someone who can coach me.

I’m a coaching student of Alex Jeffreys.
I’ve taken the plunge to get professional
help.

Want to hear something that’s really messed
up? 

I really, really, REALLY want to get an
Internet business up and running and
generating an income, strictly from the
Internet.

BUT, for some reason, I’ve procrastinated.

I joined the coaching program and then
studied the modules of the coaching
program and haven’t taken massive
action to get my business going.

I’ve been in this coaching program for
about a month.

Sure, it took me some time and effort
to get this blog up and running but,
really, it didn’t need to take that long.

I didn’t take consitent, persitent action.

But, I’m working on slaying that
procrastination monster.  One day at
a time.

Here’s what I wanted to share with you
though through this post.

I just got off of a webinar for the coaching
program that covered some awesome stuff
about how to be successful in an Internet Business.

One of the quotes that I had to jot down
and share right away because I have found
it to be so, so true!

Here’s what Alex shared with his students:

“If you’re not getting the results you want,
you’re not planning enough”

How true this is!  I’ve found when I’m working
on my Internet Business and I start wandering
off in my thoughts and activities like checking
email for no reason, surfing forums endlessly
and aimlessly, etc, etc…..

It’s because I’m not looking at my plan and
doing the tasks that need to be done to make
the plan a reality.

Or, even worse, I didn’t even have a plan for
the day, week, month, etc.

Here’s the thing….

Developing a plan is like building a map for
yourself and a guide to show you how to get
to EXACTLY where you want to go.

If you don’t have some sort of plan to work
from, you’ll be wandering aimlessly.

Trust me…. I know!  I’ve wandered aimlessly
for hours and hours online tricking myself
into thinking I’m “working” on my business.

That doesn’t cut it….obviously, or I would
be making some good money online by
now!

So, planning, from what Alex is saying, is
the key to opening the door to the “Kingdom”.

I’ll share with you in a future post how I am
going to follow Alex’s planning processes &
procedures and share with you what I find.

My Internet Business Endeavors – Rocky Start

Hi All,

Well, my quest to become an Internet Millionaire is
off to a rocky start, to say the least.

Apparently, there are a few things you need to know
on the technical side of things to be able to have
things like blogs and websites function properly.

It’s been frustrating to have to study for 4 hours
here, 2 hours there, another 6 hours here to be
able to figure out how to adjust 1 or 2 things on
a Wordpress blog and then STILL not be able to
do the thing you’re trying to do!

Although you are gaining some knowledge and
skills by doing the studying, there may still be
things you can’t figure out (as in my case).

You may be better off  to just find someone 
who already knows how to do what you
need done and pay them to do it…..

You can find experts on Craigslist.com or places
like Elance.com

It’s less time, a little money and the best part?

IT GETS DONE!

One thing that does make me feel better about
the situation is when I think about this:

How many people even know what it takes to set 
up a blog or website?

What would you guess?  5% of the total population?
Maybe.  I would say that’s a big maybe.

Probably more like 1 or 2%….

So, I now know how to do more than 95 to 98%
of the rest of the people in the world in regards
to setting up a blog or website!

Anyone know the real statistcs on that?

That would be interesting to know.

In case you’re reading this and don’t
know how to set up a blog or website,
here are the steps I had to go through:

1)  Think about what you want to set
      up… a blog or a website

2)  Think about what your goals are for
       having your own website or blog.  Is
       it to make money?  Is it to advertise or
       market your offline business?  Is it just
       to have a place where your family can
       keep up with you and each other?

3)  Think about a name that would be in
       line with the goals of your website.
       Example:  If you are promoting yourself
       or your business, yourname.com would
       probably be good…or yourbusiness.com
       (substitute your name or the name of your
        business in the examples above)  :-)

4)  Check availability of the domain name you
       would like to register by going to a domain
       registrar such as Godaddy.com or Dynadot.com

5)  Pay to register the domain name for at least a
       year – this gives you the “ownership” rights for
       a full year for anywhere from $7.95 and up
      depending on where you register your domain
      name.

6)  Find a hosting company that is reasonably priced
      and offers reliable service.  (And has a program called
      Fantastico to be able to upload a Wordpress blog)
      The hosting company I hear alot about is HostGator.com
      I use a company called HostDime.com (recommended by
      a friend, but HostGator looks easier to use then HostDime)
    

7)  Decide whether you are going to set up a blog using
       Wordpress or a “traditional” website. If you’re just
        starting out as I am, I suggest setting up a Wordpress
        blog.  If you want to build a website, it is more
        complicated and you are probably going to have to
        invest in some sort of software like Frontpage or
        Dreamweaver which aren’t easy to use and are a
        little on the pricey side, last time I checked.

8)  Set the “nameservers” in your registrar account
      where you bought your domain name to match 
      your hosting account’s nameservers.

9)  Install Wordpress onto your site by following the
       instructions of Fantastico in the backoffice or
       “Cpanel” of the hosting account of your domain name.

10)  Use the default themes or templates for Wordpress or
         do a Google search for cool themes or templates for
         your blog.

11)  Start posting your thoughts, insights or whatever
        else you want to post based on the goals of your
        blog/website and HAVE FUN!

12)  If all of the above sounds too confusing or it doesn’t
         sound like you’re up to the challenge of it all, find and
         hire someone to do it for you.

Although, it has been frustrating at times for me, I did
learn alot and figured out how to find and hire someone
when I got stuck.

Being in the top 2 to 5% of the rest of the world in technical
skills feels pretty cool too!

Bottom line is that any of the time you spend studying
how to do any of this stuff is time invested in yourself
and you should not consider it a waste of time.

Once you study and apply what you’ve studied, you
now own that skill or have that skill to use at a later
time.

Trust me when I say, that I have had to study alot
of things to get to this point.  But, it was well worth
it!  (Even though I had to hire outside help to figure
out what was wrong with my blog, I still feel like I’ve
accomplished alot)
